Every year, when the sales are on in full force, there are thousands of travel customers who choose to take advantage of the discount rates available in winter and book their holidays for the summer. This year, however, there are many of us who simply don’t feel able to part with large quantities of cash in this uncertain economic climate, particularly after the indulgent festive period.
Take heart. This doesn’t mean you must forego your annual dose of summer holiday fun altogether. It simply means it might be time to try something a little different. Since the beginning of the credit crunch, domestic holidays have increased dramatically in popularity and many people, regardless of financial circumstances, are starting to look fondly once more upon the prospect of exploring the many holiday destinations that Britain has to offer.
Want to know more? Read on:
One might be forgiven for making the assumption that caravan holidays in Essex or Anglesey or Scarborough are designed for those who already own a caravan. Here, however, you would be mistaken. Caravans are readily available for short of long term rental at much lower rates than your average hotel. Choose reputable sites, such as those run by Park Resorts, and you won’t be disappointed.
And if you want to get even more retro in your rural retreats this summer, why not get back to basics with a traditional camping trip? Many of us have fabulous memories of camping as children. Stories round the fire, roasted marshmallows on sticks, long walks in the delightful English countryside, plenty of fresh air… Not only is camping a great way to get active on holiday, it also provides fuel for the soul and the imagination.
If you are determined to have a more conventional holiday in a hotel or a rental property, you may find that prices on holiday homes reduce dramatically when you team up with one or two other families. There are many advantages to this idea, aside from the cost itself. Babysitting duties are shared between you. The kids are occupied playing with one another. Opportunities to really relax are far more likely to come your way.
If a week-long holiday simply seems too extravagant there are a host of terrific day trips to be enjoyed in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Whether it’s an educational excursion to one of the many fabulous National Trust or English Heritage properties dotted across the country, or whether it’s a breezy hike across the breathtaking Yorkshire moors, there are plenty of ways to enjoy yourself without the expense of an overnight stay.
Once you start thinking creatively ideas are sure to come flooding on in. Make the most of Britain this year and get domestic with your budget breaks.
