Avoid getting a baby cot with protruding knobs and other hardware that may catch your infant's clothing. Because only new baby mattress can be firm enough, that is very good for a newborn because a new baby's muscles are not fully developed yet and it is hard for the child to lift his or her head up after she or he has sunk into a soft and fluffy surface. In addition when your child is in bed on a firm cot mattress he or she can move and roll about more freely and easily, making him or her more comfy.
The baby mattress has to fit the cot snugly and close in order not to allow the wiggling baby get trapped between, and moreover there should be at least a height of 26" that you can measure from the top of the cot mattress to the top of the cot rail in a raised position.
