When you are moving to germany you can make it an easy and less stressful move if you have an appropriate timetable that begins far enough in advance to accomplish all the things you need to get completed before the big moving day. Some even suggest you start performing that move at least three months in advance of the move. You may even begin sooner if you are going to have an auction of the items and furniture that you are not taking on the move.

So now you can concentrate on the actual sorting and packing up of your household goods.
The first thing after hiring your removals company is to take a walk through all of the areas of the house, yard and any other storage areas to access what you actually have. If you have lived in the house for a while then you may have accumulated far more that you thought so it is a good time to clear out any unwanted items. Then take another walk through with notebook in hand and actually list what you believe you will require in your new home. You should also have a plan of the new home so you can mentally place the items. In fact if you are super-coordinated then you could also put stickers on the furniture and other goods as to where you will place them in the new home. You should use a numbering system instead of words as it much easier to misunderstand words and the movers can misread shed and den easier than 1,2,3 etc. So mark on your house plan the corresponding numbers that you attach to the furniture. Then when the movers finally move in your boxes you won’t discover boxes of computer related items meant for the den in the shed or a box of potting tools in the den. They are moving in a hurry and don’t really stop to read.
Once you have an idea of what you will be moving to germany then set aside an area for a ‘do not remove’ pile where you can set items that you may want to take with you or still need. If you are going to organize a yard sale or have the removals company take things to an auction house you need to begin these arrangements. Then what ever is not sold you will need to take to a local charity shop or a recycling center.
If you are going to pack some things at least three weeks before the move you should be packing away. It can be back breaking because you will be up and down and bending over boxes to put stuff in and out. So be prepared for it.
